Kate Kazlo began her professional career with the retail and home furnishings
brand, Shabby Chic in Chicago. She spent several years living in Los Angeles
and traveling across the country to New York City, managing their retail
division, before she decided it was time to come home.
Kate opened The Home Market in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward neighborhood in 2006, hiring her sister to help manage custom orders, retail traffic and her growing list of clients seeking design services. In 2014, The Home Market moved to a larger space in the Third Ward, continuing to build business and providing the right foundation on which to expand.
The Home Market specializes in custom slipcovered and upholstered furniture, unique home accents, bedding and lighting. Spaces that are designed to feel collected, not decorated, by mixing organic neutrals and refined details to create a casual, elegant style. Kate handpicks the merchandise for the store and her clients, including vintage and one-of-a-kind accents, and is just as likely to be found hanging a picture frame in a client’s home as she is styling a tablescape.
Kate has worked on many custom design projects, ranging from whole home remodels to the Wisconsin Sports Awards event design, and works on projects throughout the country.
In 2021, Ashley Evans, a well-known name in the design space in Milwaukee, joined the Home Market as a Senior Design Consultant. Ashley’s fresh style, experience in the industry and passion for breathing new life into older spaces make her a perfect addition to the team. Ashley works in residential renovations, design and decorating projects, enjoying the unique challenges that come from every project. She is inspired by travels and new trends within the furniture industry that she can incorporate into a design, enjoying the process from scratch-pad ideas to final reveal.
